Courses

Which are the teaching methods?

Teaching at ULB is based on a credit system, called ECTS (European Credits Transfer System). Courses are categorized into teaching hours (labeled in the curriculum guide as Th. for “théorie”), seminars (Sém.), exercises (Ex.) and practicals (T.P. for “travaux pratiques”).
To know how many credits you will get for a course, check the course catalogue.

How to build my provisional courses choice?

  1. Check the programmes:
  2. Check the courses schedules;
  3. Ask for your ULB ULB academic coordinator's point of view/advices;
  4. Get your courses choice approved by your home coordinator (if necessary, send her/him the courses descriptions, or, if not available, the table of content. Let her/him also know about the number of crédits ECTS).
  5. Get your final courses choice approved by your ULB academic coordinator.

Which are the courses choice's rules?

  1. As FSP Exchange Student, you are requested to register to 1 course at least. The exact number of courses or ECTS credits you will have to totalize during your exchange period has to be determined by your home institution.
  2. Each exchange takes place in the scope of an agreement between the home institution and one of the FSP Departments. If you are authorized to select courses from the other departments, you nevertheless have to choose at least 60% of your courses in the department you belong to.
  3. You are requested to take all the exams you have registered to.

How to register to courses?

  1. Check the electronic information boards. Are there particular registration procedures for some of the courses you have selected?
    Be careful: some courses have a limited number of places. In this case, priority is offered to students from the corresponding department.
  2. Fill in the (pink) courses registration form for the running term.
    Be careful: make sure that all the data are correct and complete!! Only register to courses which access is authorized.
  3. Return your form to your ULB academic coordinator before the deadline.

    Please note: by returning the courses registration form, you also register to the exams (first session).

How to contact a professor or an assistant?

The easiest way is to ask your questions just before or just after the course. Should this not be possible or should your problem be urgent, you can try to contact your professor or his/her assistant by phone or by e-mail (see annuaire du personnel). Some professors or assistant will also communicate their office hours. Take good note of it!
